Workshop - Intro to Metal: Jewelry and Small Objects with Seth Papac

WHEN: SEPTEMBER 19 & 20, 10AM-5PM LOCATION: UNION STUDIOS, BARRIO LOGAN INSTRUCTOR: SETH PAPAC Once you unlock the secrets to the fundamental skills, tools and methods of working with metal, a whole new world of exciting and fulfilling possibilities will be open to you as a maker/artist/jeweler. In this two day introductory course we will master sawing, drilling, riveting, texturing, roller printing, filing, sanding, patinaing and hand finishing. As we explore each technique we will view delicious images of real-world examples and discuss various aspects of design. Students will leave the course with at least 2 pieces of finished jewelry or objects, hand-outs detailing each technique, information on where to acquire tools and materials, and the practice and knowledge to confidently utilize their new skills. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Seth Papac received his Bachelor of Fine Art in Jewelry/Metalsmithing (2004) from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA and his Master of Fine Art in Jewelry/Metalsmithing (2009) from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI. Seth’s work is exhibited and published in Europe as well as the United States. He is the recipient of a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant, a Peter S. Reed Foundation NY, NY grant as well as the Tobey Devan Lewis Fellowship. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX, Cranbrook Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, MI, Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma, WA, Museum of Contemporary Craft, Portland, OR and the Rotasa Foundation, Mill Valley, CA. For the past four years Seth was a Full Time Lecturer in the Jewelry and Metalwork Department at San Diego State University, previously taught Jewelry and Metalwork at the University of Oregon and is a visiting artist and critic for various programs across the country such as Cranbrook Academy of Art and the Rhode Island School of Design.
